It all started when…

I happened upon an urban legend from across the globe that I had never heard before. I thought that’s so unusual, a scary story I’ve never read or watched?! I prided myself on being a connoisseur of haunting tales, and yet this one slipped by me.

I decided to take a deep dive into the depths of horror and paranormal legends on databases not in my language, and therefore stories not of English-speaking origins. Thankfully with Google Translate as my guide, I unearthed countless tales that spanned back centuries. Cautionary tales for children, shocking incidents that became legends, and disturbing, unexplainable happenings that were whispered down from generation to generation.

There is one key component I found that ties each and every story together, and that is fear. Fear of the unknown is the driving force behind every legend I discovered. It is that emotion that makes these stories timeless and their origins inconsequential. Fear, despair, panic, anxiety are all part of the human experience, and folklore just paints these emotions with the common dialect to illustrate the warning that must be shared.
